This past spring, indie-folk band Shallow Alcove embarked on their first European tour opening for Tiny Habits. Having recently fallen in love with their dreamy harmonies and all-too-relatable lyrics, I was ecstatic at the chance to see them live at Saint Luke's in Glasgow. I had mentally noted the irony of seeing them live in Scotland when both myself and the band were from New York; but upon stepping into the venue, adorned with beautiful stained-glass windows and a pipe organ, I knew I was in for a magical show.
Shallow Alcove is a band of best friends that formed in college, and their love for each other and their lyrical subjects echoed through the venue and the hearts of the audience. Vocalist Grace Krichbaum, joined by Dan Harris, Peter Groppe, Jack Harrington, and Noah Dadaris are truly something special. They invited the audience to close their eyes in order to fully take in their (at the time) upcoming single, Waiting for Tulips. What followed was peaceful meditation on appreciating quiet moments with those who you love. Their gentle melodies were able draw in the audience’s interest and command their attention to where all you could hear was the quiet hum of fans singing along – a feat that many strive for but few are able to achieve.
I am excited to be able to re-live such a special show, as this past week, Shallow Alcove embarked on their first headline tour in North America. The picnic themed-performances are sure to be a magical time for all in attendance and five special cities will feature a wonderful picnic with the band before the show!
